Case Study #1 • Dyslexia Tutor/Africa:
Students who accompany their parents to remote destinations often do not have access to support services necessary for unique learning situations. This was the case with a family who was posted to Africa. In order for the student to receive services to be successful, she needed to have a tutor who was well versed in students with dyslexia. So began the search for a teacher who would accompany this unique family to their post. The optimal match was made, and the contract between parents and tutor was made and the school year began and ended successfully. The student is back in her home school and continues to be successful.
Case Study #2 • School Research/Australia:
A family was transferred to Sydney, Australia on very short notice. The honor student from a high profile private school in Denver had dozens of school choices in Sydney after a thorough search was conducted. She had to determine if International Baccalaureate was the appropriate curriculum model for her, or if a traditional Australian school model was more her style. After a thorough search of schools was completed, as well as a list of characteristics to look for in schools that would suit this student, she found the school that best fit her personality.
Case Study #3 • Experiential Programs/Italy:
As one student, who attended a performing arts school, began filling in her college application, she realized that her path in performing arts was not what she wanted. Rather than panic about what to do with her life, she decided to take a break, and try something new in the art world. She decided that she would try photography and painting and together, we explored programs in Italy. She landed in Florence, Italy where she spent a semester studying art. She will return home and study photography for the second semester and enroll in school and start taking her liberal arts course work.
Case Study #4 • Learning Disabilities/Universities:
Students with specific learning profiles have rights to learning support at universities. It is difficult to navigate how to access these programs and what paper work is necessary for admission into these programs. WSS is working with one student to get him prepared for which ever university he will attend to make sure his portfolio is ready so when he gets on campus, there is no break in services for him.
